Catch-Up & Project-Based Bookkeeping

A quarter behind. A year behind. A startup with nothing in the books. We've seen all of it.

Project-based bookkeeping engagements to dig out, set up, or hand off — without committing you to an ongoing monthly retainer.

Catch-up and project bookkeeping for businesses that just need to get current.

Sometimes you don't need a forever bookkeeper — you need a few weeks of focused work to catch up on a year of receipts, set up a brand-new company file, or get the books in shape to hand off to a new accountant. That's a project, not an engagement. We scope it, we quote it, we finish it.

What's included

  • Catch up months or years of unrecorded transactions
  • Reconcile every bank, credit card, and loan account back to a known-good starting point
  • Build a clean trial balance and signed-off opening balances
  • Brand-new business set up — chart of accounts, opening entries, vendor/customer lists
  • Migrate an existing file to a new platform (e.g., Desktop → Online)
  • Prepare a clean year-end package for a new CPA
  • Extra hands during a seasonal crunch — short-term contract bookkeeping
  • One-time clean-up before selling, financing, or transferring the business

Signs you should hand this off

  • You're behind on filing and your CPA is waiting.
  • Your books haven't been reconciled in over a year.
  • You opened the business and never set anything up properly.
  • You're switching CPAs and the new one wants clean prior periods.
  • You're preparing to sell and need defensible historical statements.
  • You started in QuickBooks, gave up, and went back to spreadsheets.
  • Common questions

How do you price a catch-up project? +

Flat fee, agreed up front, after a quick file review. We don't bill hourly for clean-ups because that's how scope quietly doubles. You get a price and a delivery date.

How fast can you catch me up? +

A typical 12-month catch-up for a small business takes 2–4 weeks. Larger businesses or messy files take longer — we'll tell you honestly when we scope.

Can the project become an ongoing engagement? +

Yes — and most do. Once we've cleaned everything up, the obvious next step is to keep it clean. But there's no obligation.

What do you need from me to start? +

Read-only access to your bank and credit card accounts, your QuickBooks file (or the latest spreadsheet you've been using), and a 30-minute call to understand the business. That's enough to scope.
